Alex Curtis

Public Knowledge

Alex Curtis is director of policy and new media for Public Knowledge, a nonprofit advocacy organization representing the public interest in media and telecommunications policy. Alex developed an interest in public policy early in college while interning in the U.S. Senate. He made Sen. Mike DeWine the second senator on the Internet (he missed being first by one day). In subsequent years, he worked on legislative issues for the Antitrust Subcommittee of the Senate Judiciary Committee, debating such issues as broadband, digital online music and open access. At Public Knowledge, Alex has focused on copyright and telecommunications policy, advocating for creators of "traditional" and user-generated content. He's produced a leading video that simply explains Net Neutrality and is responsible for unleashing Sen. Ted Stevens' "series of tubes" statement on the Web. Alex graduated from Wake Forest University in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He later earned his J.D. in 2001 from the University of Akron School of Law, where he focused on intellectual property.
