Gina McCauley
Gina McCauley was named by Essence magazine as of the "25 Most Influential African Americans of 2007" for her work on her blog, What About Our Daughters? Last year, the blog won "Judge's Choice for Blog of the Year" from the Black WeblogAwards. The blog also picked up an award for "Best Blog Post or BlogPost Series." The blog is most well-known for its fight to combat negative portrayals of African-American women in popular culture and violence against black women and children, but has evolved into one of the most influential African-American blogs, sitting perched at the intersection of pop culture, politics and current affairs. The blog has been mentioned in most major newspapers and has been featured in Essence, Jet, and Ebony. McCauley hosts a weekly podcast, the Black Women's Roundtable, one of the most popular political podcasts on Blog Talk Radio. McCauley is also one of the organizers for Blogging While Brown, an international conference for bloggers of color being held in Atlanta in July 2008. She is currently completing her first book.
