Tim Sparapani
Tim Sparapani, senior legislative counsel for the American Civil Liberties Union's Washington office, focuses on lobbying Congress and the executive branch to protect the right to privacy, ensure due process for immigrants, and defend civil liberties in national security matters. Sparapani's efforts focus on preventing intrusions into Americans' privacy by individuals, companies and federal, state and local governments. Sparapani also monitors the effect of federal, state and local national security policies on civil liberties. Prior to joining the ACLU, Sparapani worked for four years for the Washington law firm Dickstein Shapiro LLP, where he helped clients devise and execute legislative, political and legal strategies in cases involving controversies implicating the U.S. or various states' constitutions. Sparapani has assisted senior policy staff of the John Edwards for President 2008 campaign in formulating domestic policies and responding to key legal developments. He played a similar role with the Kerry/Edwards '04 and the John Edwards for President campaigns. Sparapani received his B.A. cum laude from Georgetown University in 1996 and his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School in 2000.
