Ruth L. Nuñez
Ruth works with the democracy and digital civil rights team to strengthen community engagement in our efforts to co-construct a safe, fair and equitable media ecosystem. Ruth has more than 20 years’ experience in the entertainment industry, which drives her commitment to fight for media equity. As a writer, she was featured on the cover of the WGA’s Written By magazine for being the first person to join that union via her work in digital media. Net Neutrality opened that opportunity: She became an early Net Neutrality advocate and testified at the FCC (2009), the U.S. Senate (2014), a Free Press panel on Capitol Hill (2014) and a congressional hearing (2019). Ruth earned her B.A. in English (creative-writing emphasis), her certificate in digital humanities and her Ph.D. in information studies at UCLA. She loves hiking, all things nature and spoiling the family pets.
