Tell FCC Chairman Carr: Leave Journalists Alone

The FCC is supposed to be independent — and should not serve as a tool of the Trump administration’s plans to rewrite the truth to serve its authoritarian aims. Journalists and media outlets must be allowed to report the news without interference from the government, and we cannot allow Trump’s latest attack on 60 Minutes to strip CBS of its broadcast license.

Demand that FCC Chairman Carr stop threatening to censor broadcasters.

To FCC Chairman Brendan Carr:

The Federal Communications Commission should not be the White House’s media censor — and yet time and again, President Trump calls on you to fulfill his self-serving agenda. Your office and agency are meant to be servants of the people and the U.S. Constitution — it is far past time that you act accordingly.

While the FCC has the authority to issue and deny broadcast licenses, it rightfully abstains — on First Amendment grounds — from dictating broadcast outlets’ editorial decisions. You must honor your oath of office and reject President Trump’s unconstitutional call on the FCC to strip CBS of its licenses.

The FCC must stop attacking the First Amendment and the freedom of the press.
