NEW YORK — On Sept. 15, Internet freedom supporters will gather in City Hall Park to demand real protections for Net Neutrality and a rejection of Comcast's proposed merger with Time Warner Cable.

The rally, organized by Free Press and its allies, will urge the Federal Communications Commission to adopt rules that would prevent broadband providers like AT&T, Comcast and Verizon from discriminating against online content and services. The FCC’s deadline for public comments on its Internet proposal falls on the same day as the rally.

Speakers will include:
Former New York gubernatorial candidate Zephyr Teachout and running mate Tim Wu
Craig Aaron of Free Press
Susan Lerner of Common Cause New York
Josh Levy of Access
Alfredo Lopez of May First/People Link
Jennifer Pozner of Women in Media & News
Fatima Shaik of the PEN American Center
Juliet Shen of 18 Million Rising

WHAT: Rally to Save the Internet
WHEN: Mon., Sept. 15, from 12:30–1:30 p.m.
WHERE: City Hall Park (Broadway and Chambers), New York City

Millions of Americans have already submitted comments to the FCC on the need to preserve the open Internet and reject the Comcast merger. The flood of comments on Net Neutrality has caused the FCC’s comment website to crash on multiple occasions.

The consolidation of media power under Comcast threatens everyone’s rights to connect and communicate. Comcast’s record of Net Neutrality violations, price gouging and unfair market practices has put the cable giant at the bottom of customer-satisfaction surveys year after year. (For these reasons, we’re also holding a Sept. 15 rally outside Comcast’s headquarters in Philadelphia and activists around the country will organize solidarity demonstrations in their communities.)
