Far-right paramilitary groups and others intent on organizing violence and suppressing the vote of Black and Latinx voters have hijacked Facebook. The platform’s sheer lack of oversight and unwillingness to take these threats seriously pose an extreme threat to our democracy’s most important activity.
During the discussion, experts will explore ways the political press can address the spread of dangerous, anti-democratic content via social media. Particular attention will be paid to best practices for fighting online hate speech, calls to violence and disinformation before, during and after the election.
The moderated panel discussion, hosted by Free Press and Guns Down America, will include ample time for reporters to ask questions.
