WASHINGTON – The Federal Communications Commission announced Monday that it was seeking additional information from both Comcast and NBC Universal on the impact of the companies’ proposed merger. The FCC set a deadline of Oct. 18 for Comcast and NBC to answer its questions.
Free Press Policy Counsel Corie Wright made the following statement:
“The FCC should leave no stone unturned in reviewing the proposed union between Comcast and NBC Universal, and we commend the Commission for scrutinizing the merger’s impact on the media marketplace. This merger is unprecedented in both size and scope and threatens to drastically alter the shape of our media landscape. The FCC’s job is to ensure that this merger is in the public interest. So far, Comcast and NBC have failed to meet their burden of demonstrating that the merger would benefit competition or consumers.”
