WASHINGTON -- All five Federal Communications Commissioners will meet face-to-face with the public at a hearing on April 30 in Tampa to discuss the local impact of sweeping changes to the nation's media ownership rules.

WHAT: FCC Hearing on Media Ownership
WHEN: Monday, April 30, 2007, 4-11 p.m. ET
WHO: FCC Commissioners, local leaders, media representatives and concerned citizens
WHERE:
Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center
Louise Lykes Ferguson Hall
1010 North W.C. MacInnes Place, Tampa

The fourth official FCC hearing will feature an "open microphone" session for the public to offer testimony on a first-come, first-served basis. The FCC is seeking public input as it reviews longstanding media ownership limits that dictate how many television stations, radio stations and newspapers one company can own in a media market.

A broad coalition of local and national groups is urging its members to attend the hearing and testify about the impact of media consolidation. They include the Communications Workers of America, Consumer Federation of America, Consumers Union, Free Press, Florida AFL-CIO, Florida PIRG, Mid-Atlantic Community Papers Association, National Association of Hispanic Journalists, The Newspaper Guild, Prometheus Radio Project, the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition, Tampa Bay Community Network, The Tampa Education Channel, United Church of Christ Office of Communication, Inc., and U.S. PIRG.

To help local residents prepare their testimony and learn more about media issues, the coalition is sponsoring a series of workshops in advance of the event. The workshops will be held:
