Free Press Action Fund Supports Rep. Eshoo’s Push for Wireless Transparency
WASHINGTON -- On Wednesday, Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-Calif.) introduced the “Next Generation Wireless Disclosure Act,” which would give customers more information about the price, speed and coverage of their wireless plans.
M. Chris Riley, policy counsel of the Free Press Action Fund, made the following statement:
“We applaud Rep. Eshoo’s effort to get mobile users the information they need and deserve for their wireless services. This bill sets a critical goal of getting consumers access to data about the actual price they’re paying, the real speed of service they’re getting, and exactly what they can do on and with their phones.
“But we will not see the full benefit of improvements in transparency unless they are paired with meaningful competition and choice in the wireless market. The wireless market is broken, and while access to information is a must, people have few real options once they have it.”
