WASHINGTON -- In testimony before the Senate on Tuesday afternoon, Free Press Action Fund Policy Director Matt Wood will speak out in favor of consumer safeguards that promote diversity and choice in America's video marketplace.

"Some companies and lobbies call for total repeal of video rules," Wood will testify. "But don't be fooled. What they want are changes that benefit their own business and hamper competitors."

Wood will testify before members of the Senate Commerce Committee's Subcommittee on Communications, Technology and the Internet.

He will argue that Congress needs to keep and expand existing safeguards, noting that "many rules on the books today promote competition and consumer choice."

His testimony will discuss a number of legislative remedies that would help increase competition and empower consumers of video online, over-the-air and on pay-TV platforms.
