Free Press to the FCC: No Further Delays on Real Net Neutrality
WASHINGTON — According to an agenda released Thursday, the Federal Communications Commission will not vote on new Net Neutrality rules at its Dec. 11 meeting. The FCC's next open meeting is scheduled for Jan. 29, 2015.
Earlier this month, President Obama called on the FCC to protect Net Neutrality by reclassifying Internet access providers under Title II of the Communications Act. The agency has been reviewing public comments on the matter since it opened its rulemaking proceeding in May.
Free Press President and CEO Craig Aaron made the following statement:
"The FCC should have all of the information and motivation it needs to make the right decision and protect Internet users by reclassifying broadband providers as common carriers under Title II of the Communications Act.
“President Obama has joined nearly 4 million Americans in calling on the agency to protect real Net Neutrality. Now it’s time for the FCC to take action.
“Chairman Wheeler needs to tell the American public when the FCC’s going to implement real Net Neutrality safeguards and how they're going to get it done."
