WASHINGTON -- Today, the Senate held a confirmation hearing for FCC commission nominees Mignon Clyburn and Meredith Attwell Baker.

Josh Silver, executive director of Free Press, issued the following statement:

"We are optimistic about the future of the FCC with a full slate of commissioners on board. We believe that this FCC has the opportunity to spur real change and take a leading role in carrying out President Obama’s Internet and technology agenda. We welcome new commissioners with a background in public service and diverse perspectives that will be valuable as the FCC gets to work on important issues like implementing the national broadband strategy and diversifying media ownership.

"We will be glad when all the seats at the commission are finally filled, and look forward to working with Commissioners Clyburn and Baker, who will both undoubtedly bring important knowledge and insight to the FCC.”
