Responding to reports that Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-Calif.) has been named ranking member of the House Subcommittee on Communications, Technology and the Internet, Free Press Research Director S. Derek Turner made the following statement:

Eshoo is a strong defender of the public interest with a clear record of protecting consumers and the open Internet. While the Court remanded these cases for more fact-finding by the lower courts, it noted laws that prevent platforms from deciding which speech it will or will not host are “unlikely to withstand First Amendment scrutiny.”
