WASHINGTON -- Citizens concerned about media consolidation will rally outside of Federal Communications Commission headquarters before the agency's hearing on localism on Wednesday, Oct. 31.
The rally will take place:

Speakers at the rally will include Reps. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.) and Maurice Hinchey (D-N.Y.); FCC Commissioners Jonathan Adelstein and Michael Copps; Rev. Jesse Jackson, president of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition; Kim Gandy, president of the National Organization for Women; Brent Wilkes, executive director of the League of United Latin American Citizens; Rev. Lennox Yearwood, executive director of the Hip Hop Caucus; Carol Jenkins, president of the Women's Media Center; and many more local and national leaders. Josh Silver, executive director of Free Press, will emcee the event.
The hearing was announced just five business days prior to the event and follows reports that FCC Chairman Kevin Martin is rushing to eliminate longstanding media ownership limits before the end of the year.
