Free Press Vice President Matt Wood discusses FCC Chairman Carr’s plans to block mergers from companies promoting diversity, equity and inclusion.

Free Press Action Co-CEO Jessica J. González spoke to KPFA about the Trump administration’s efforts to zero out funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

The maneuver is part of a broader White House plan to cancel $9.3 billion for several programs that it doesn’t support.

“President Trump and his loyalists want to take another cherished public service away from the American people,” said Free Press Action Co-CEO Jessica J. González.

Any attempt by Chairman Carr to comply would amount to government censorship, setting a dangerous precedent for media independence in the United States.

According to press reports, the White House plans to cut more than a billion dollars from the budget, effectively zeroing out federal funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

A Utah law may not actually protect child influencers and could lead to widespread censorship of journalistic content on social media.

Trump is weaponizing the FCC  to attack First Amendment freedoms and threaten free speech. Unfortunately, FCC Chairman Carr has been all too happy to comply.

While some in the media industry have acknowledged historical harms toward marginalized communities and people of color, more work needs to be done.
