Join the #HalfMyDAF Movement to Amplify Your Support for Free Press

This year, Free Press is participating in the #HalfMyDAF challenge — a unique opportunity to double the value of Donor Advised Fund (DAF) donations to our organization.

What’s a Donor Advised Fund?

This is a 501(c)(3) public charity that allows a donor to take a charitable deduction during the year in which a charitable gift is contributed to the fund. The money contributed can then be donated to charitable organizations. Donors can recommend how much (and how often) they want to distribute money from that fund to Free Press or other charities.

Over $234 billion sits in Donor Advised Funds across the country. The goal of #HalfMyDAF is to move that money to nonprofits like Free Press by giving away unrestricted matching grants. If you commit to distributing half of your Donor Advised Fund by Sept. 27, 2024, every grant you make to Free Press could be matched dollar for dollar, up to $5,000, with additional chances for four $25,000 mega-matches.

Why should I give to Free Press?

Unlike many nonprofits, Free Press doesn’t take a single cent from business, government or political parties. We’ve been 100 percent independent since our founding 21 years ago: Our work is funded solely through contributions from charitable foundations and individuals like you.

Your support at this moment is crucial. It will enable us to capitalize on the #HalfMyDAF matching opportunity, which could significantly increase our resources to expand affordable internet access, uphold Net Neutrality, combat hate and disinformation, rejuvenate local journalism, protect privacy and so much more.
