Public Broadcasting Targeted in House Budget Plan

WASHINGTON — Budget-slashing House Republicans are taking aim at America’s public broadcasting system. The funding resolution introduced today by the House Appropriations Committee would eliminate more than $400 million in federal spending that supports local public radio and television stations and their programming.

WASHINGTON -- In a speech to the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation on Monday, Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski outlined a proposal to revamp the Universal Service Fund (USF), echoing ideas discussed by the chairman last year. A Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on USF reform is on the agenda for the FCC’s meeting on Tuesday.
